Located amid the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains, Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness stands out as a premier full-immersion wilderness therapy program tailored for teenagers and young adults. Established in 2002, the center boasts a team of primary therapists, family therapists, field instructors, a clinical psychologist, and a psychiatrist, all under proficient leadership. Licensed by Georgia's Department of Human Services and accredited by the Association for Experiential Education, the facility prioritizes professional standards and care. The adolescent program caters to individuals aged 13-18 who seek transformative support for various mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, screen addiction, academic troubles, ADD & ADHD, family discord, self-harm, and substance misuse. A customized treatment plan is devised for each participant in collaboration with a Licensed Primary Therapist and round-the-clock staff. In the initial two weeks following a student's arrival, a licensed clinical psychologist performs an assessment to further refine the individualized treatment strategies. For young adults aged 18-28, Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness offers the “Emerald Arrow” program, which addresses mental health concerns, family conflicts, and identity challenges with personalized care. Similarly, a clinical psychologist conducts an assessment in the first two weeks, utilizing this information to guide weekly personalized sessions facilitated by primary therapists and field instructors. Situated in an environment free from distractions, the daily experience is both distinctive and enriching. Routines incorporate individual therapy, teamwork exercises, personal reflection, motivational interviewing, and academic pursuits. Participants can earn up to 3.5 credits in middle or high school by engaging in subjects such as creative writing, wilderness science, outdoor safety, leadership skills, psychology, life skills, and physical education. Key objectives include achieving mental clarity, enhancing sleep quality, alleviating depression, regulating emotions, and reducing physical discomfort. Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness supports these goals through nutritious meals, opportunities for physical activity like hiking, and daily mindfulness practices. Young adults also engage in group therapy, skill-development workshops, speaker events, ceremonies, and gratitude exercises. Family engagement is a critical component of the healing process at Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness. The center emphasizes the importance of systemic change in family dynamics, encouraging families to participate actively alongside their children in therapy. To support this, they offer parent workshops, support calls, a dedicated Facebook community, mentorship opportunities, and access to family therapists.
The rehabilitation center provides support for individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Here, you'll benefit from personalized treatment designed specifically for your needs, acquire essential recovery skills, and foster new relationships within a healing atmosphere.
At Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness, we understand the importance of accessible mental health care, and we strive to accommodate the varied financial needs of our patients and their families.
