Situated on a sprawling 32-acre estate, Great Lakes Recovery Center for adolescents is a residential treatment facility dedicated to addressing substance use issues and preventing relapse among youth aged 12 to 17. The compassionate and skilled staff focus on holistic support to help clients cultivate life skills, establish healthy connections, confront past traumas, and uphold their sobriety. In addition to attending on-site education, patients participate in two group therapy sessions daily and receive weekly individual and family counseling. Academic Support Great Lakes Recovery fosters a welcoming, home-like environment that ensures uninterrupted education for those in treatment. The facility is designed with comfort in mind, featuring semi-private rooms with attached bathrooms, communal living spaces that include a television area, shared mealtimes, an enclosed courtyard, outdoor basketball courts, a greenhouse, scenic walking paths, and a healing circle. A certified Special Education instructor is available on-site to address the academic needs of the clients, including administering GED tests when necessary. Comprehensive medical care is provided by in-house medical professionals, ensuring that clients receive essential health and dental services. The education area benefits from ample natural light and scenic views, equipped with comfortable desks, educational laptops, headphones, a dry-erase board, a projector, a monitor, and a smart board for varied instructional methods. Each classroom has a dedicated Great Lakes Recovery counselor to maintain a low student-to-adult ratio. Upon admission, student records are transferred from their home school, enabling the teacher to align lesson plans accordingly. Weekly reports on academic progress are shared with students’ home districts to facilitate smooth reintegration into school. A school psychologist is also present to assist in creating and managing tailored educational plans, with all necessary books, supplies, and transportation provided by Great Lakes Recovery Center. Family Engagement As clients begin their treatment journey at Great Lakes Recovery Center, each one is assigned a primary counselor for weekly individual sessions. Participants engage in multiple group therapy meetings daily, discussing various topics and participating in activities or workshops. Families complete a questionnaire during admission, equipping the primary therapist with insights to craft a treatment plan that incorporates family dynamics. Counselors keep in touch regarding patients’ progress and coordinate family therapy sessions, which can occur in-person or online. The adolescent residential program also caters to individuals with co-occurring disorders, providing education about medications, tailored clinical interventions, and evidence-based strategies for motivation and engagement. Comprehensive Treatment Residents have access to various experiential and recreational therapies, including music expression, which entails instrument play, song creation, singing, and lyrical analysis—fostering personal reflection and promoting positive coping mechanisms. Artistic expression features a range of projects designed to enhance creativity and offer different coping strategies for dealing with trauma and intense emotions. Surrounded by a vast natural landscape, clients can indulge in recreational activities like hiking, basketball, fitness routines, and seasonal outdoor experiences such as swimming, volleyball, kayaking, ultimate frisbee, tennis, skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and sledding. Seasonal equine therapy is offered nearby at Heritage Hills, where patients engage in caring for horses as part of their therapeutic experience. The "Through Our Eyes" program teaches photography skills and encourages patients to explore the grounds while capturing images that align with the monthly theme. The Bridges initiative connects adolescent clients with local seniors in assisted living facilities, fostering interaction through games, crafts, and community engagement. Service learning opportunities empower clients to feel valued and accomplished as they partake in community projects, such as assisting seniors, supporting individuals with special needs, reading to children, and cultivating community gardens. Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists are on staff to provide auricular therapy, utilizing acupuncture to support detoxification and encourage relaxation as an alternative healing method. Additional holistic practices include meditation, the use of essential oils, guided visualization, foot baths, and herbal teas, which contribute to the overall treatment experience.
The rehabilitation center specializes in the treatment of substance use disorders alongside mental health issues that may occur simultaneously. Each treatment plan is tailored to tackle both conditions simultaneously, ensuring a compassionate approach for complete recovery.
