Located in Elvis Presley's hometown in northeast Mississippi, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo is an independent unit within the Northern Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) that offers both inpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) care for both adolescents and adults, supplementing the services provided by NMMC. The hospital addresses a variety of mental health issues, including anger, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia, self-harm, stress, trauma, as well as substance use disorders and personality disorders. Their treatment approaches encompass individual counseling, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), group therapy, medication management, relapse prevention, relaxation techniques, and 12-Step Facilitation. The psychiatric team conducts daily assessments of progress and medication adjustments. For clients aged 55 and older, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo provides group therapy sessions from Monday to Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., focusing on mental health challenges related to aging, including Alzheimer's and dementia. For teenagers aged 12 to 17, the facility offers group therapy from Monday to Thursday, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., allowing younger clients engaged in the intensive outpatient program to continue their education. These sessions assist adolescents in addressing common issues, including self-harm. Oceans Behavioral Hospital has multiple facilities across Texas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma, with many specializing in mental health conditions related to aging or military service, and an increasing focus on supporting adolescents. Some facilities are in collaboration with other healthcare entities, such as Ochsner Health and Norman Regional Health System.
The rehabilitation center focuses on addressing mental health disorders along with related substance use challenges. Patients benefit from tailored, team-based care that targets both concerns for comprehensive recovery.
