Spring Lake Ranch is dedicated to aiding individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders by fostering an environment that encourages personal growth and resilience. The center employs a distinctive approach known as work-centered therapy, where meaningful labor is central to the residents' everyday experiences. Individuals at the Ranch have the option to participate in one of four specific crews—Farm, Gardens, Shop, or Woods—engaging in collaborative work with fellow residents and staff. While the Ranch values the transformative potential of work, it also acknowledges the necessity for comprehensive clinical support to help clients navigate the complexities of their mental health and addiction issues. Each participant benefits from holistic support that involves individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, medication supervision, case management, and substance use programs, complemented by mentorship from non-clinical staff as part of their integrated support model. This programming enriches the living experience while promoting sustainability. Daily responsibilities such as tending to animals, cultivating plants, constructing structures, and splitting firewood provide essential structure and routine through purposeful work. Involvement in this Work Program empowers clients, fostering their confidence and sense of self-worth as they complete projects while engaging in therapeutic discussions with staff and peers throughout the experience. Established in 1932, Spring Lake Ranch was initiated by Wayne Sarcka, a Finnish immigrant, and his wife, Elizabeth Man, who hailed from Long Island. Wayne gained valuable insights while working with traumatized British soldiers during World War I, and Elizabeth, motivated by her brother’s struggle with schizophrenia, brought her experience as a social worker in New York to the facility. The impactful life experiences and compassionate assistance available through the Work Program contribute to the myriad of positive feedback and success narratives. Spring Lake Ranch holds CARF accreditation and distinguishes itself from other treatment facilities.
The center specializes in the treatment of mental health issues and simultaneous substance abuse. Here, you will benefit from personalized care that focuses on both areas to promote comprehensive recovery and well-being.
