Eating Disorders Treatment Center (EDTC) is the sole establishment in New Mexico focused on the treatment and recovery from eating disorders. Employing a team-based strategy, EDTC provides services that include dietitian consultations, personal therapy, psychiatric care, and group therapy to assist each individual in achieving their specific objectives. They are equipped to manage various eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, along with other related issues like night eating syndrome, laxative misuse, body image issues, and body dysmorphic disorder. Moreover, EDTC addresses other mental health challenges, including obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and dissociative identity disorder. EDTC has developed tailored Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) for adolescents, adults, and those struggling with binge eating disorder. Each IOP includes a thorough nutritional assessment and personalized counseling with skilled dietitians who assist patients in planning meals and creating balanced, nutritious dishes for shared group consumption in the evenings. Following meals, therapists facilitate discussions to help patients reflect on their experiences. A variety of evidence-based and creative therapeutic approaches are incorporated to enhance treatment. The adolescent and adult programs run from 4:15 PM to 7:15 PM four days a week, with one session designated for family-oriented treatment, encouraging collaborative work on various issues. In the adult program, individuals are welcome to invite significant others or family members crucial to their recovery process. The IOP for binge eating disorder aims to provide support to individuals of all ages facing binge eating symptoms. This program is dedicated to uncovering and tackling the underlying issues of these symptoms, achieving a healthier relationship with food, and developing effective coping mechanisms. It also features monthly meetings for families or support groups to promote education and strengthen relationships. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) operates Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with extended family programming available on Tuesday evenings. During treatment, patients are offered two meals and one snack daily, coordinated by registered dietitians and dietary aides. This program includes group instruction and counseling sessions, individual therapy, as well as medical and psychiatric assessments. Participants are exposed to a variety of expressive and experiential therapies and consult with a registered dietitian weekly to review their personalized meal plans. EDTC also offers nutritional counseling services to all individuals, not limited to those with eating disorders. The dietitians assess nutritional needs and eating behaviors, support healthy thinking about food, and assist in weight management when suitable. They provide customized nutrition education, delve into patients' relationships with food and body image, and establish realistic goals to promote intuitive and healthy eating habits. The staff is well-trained to tackle a wide range of dietary and nutritional concerns, including diabetes, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and weight management.
At this center, you can receive treatment for eating disorders, where you will learn to manage your symptoms, develop effective coping strategies, and regain your physical well-being with the support of experienced professionals.
