Eligibility

Determination of Disability

If it is determined that the applicant has a physical or mental impairment, which is a substantial impediment to employment for that person, and if there is a reasonable expectation that Project Services will assist the person to achieve a vocational goal, then the applicant is found eligible for regular services.  If it is felt that the applicant does have a physical or mental impairment, which is a substantial impediment to employment, but it cannot be determined if it is likely that project services will assist the person in achieving a vocational objective, then the person will be eligible for extended evaluation.

An applicant  must be a member  of a recognized tribe.

If evidence does not support  that a person has a substantial vocational disability, then it is determined that services are not likely to assist the person in achieving a vocational goal.   If a person does not meet the tribal status or residency requirements, then they are found ineligible for services. If found eligible, it is this date that is entered as the date the applicant moves to IPE development (if found eligible for services  or extended evaluation), or for closure with a notation in Bold Type that the client entered IPE development or closed status.   Within five working days of the meeting, a letter of eligibility for services  is drawn up by the counselor, which is then reviewed  by the director. Following any modification, the director sigus the documents and the letter of eligibility is sent to the client.  All letters of eligibility will provide the applicant  with the steps of the appeals process, along with information on how to contact  the client assistance project. The database information related to Primary  Disability, Secondary Disability,  must  be completed at this time.
